Patient Participation Groupcomments

In 2007, Willington Medical Group Successfully formed a Patient Participation Group (PPG) using registered patients.

The Aims

The prime aim of the patient forum is to involve a wide range of stakeholders and in particular patients in the design and delivery of services. The medical group sees the forum as an ideal opportunity to gain patients views and incorporate them in how they operate. It is used as a tool for continuous improvement.

Who is Involved?

The practice is represented by a Doctor, Practice Manager and I.T. & Data Quality Lead. The local pharmacy, and the Carers Group are among some of the organisations that regularly attend. There are of course a number of patients and the forum welcomes anyone who wishes to be involved.

The forum receives many guests from health related oragnisations and these include:-

Larger organisations such as Durham County Council, The Clinical Commissioning Group and individual projects such as "Talking about Cancer", Stroke Related Issues and Durham Dales Carers.

The forum has representation on the Durham Dales Patient Forum and therefore has an opportuntity to influence the wider service and receive support and information .

The Meetings

The meetings are structured but informal and also informative.

Structured in that they have an agenda and minutes and actions so that they are effective and do not waste time. (Copies of the minutes can be viewed on the reports tab of this webpage along with the Patient Participation Group Constitution and Reports).

Informal so that anyone can feel comfortable and able to make a contribution.

Informative so that members of the forum gain a lot of insight into what is happening and why. Also some of the frustrations that the practice experiences (the most obvious example is the number of "Did not attends").

The meetings are held every quarter in the meeting room at the surgery and are publicised by the practice and we would encourage anyone interested to get involved.

Contact

The first and obvious point of contact is the Surgery but if patients prefer an informal chat you can contact Graham Sewell on 07732625286 or David Craggs on 01388 763709 who are available to talk to about the forum.
